WPA customers set to benefit from access to stress busting helplines and other counselling services

Beaconsfield – 18 May 2010 – WPA, the not for profit health insurer, whose customers include significant proportion of the FTSE 100, has appointed The Validium Group to provide its policyholders with access to employee assistance programmes (EAPs) and helplines.

Adrian Humphreys, Managing Director of the corporate group at WPA, explains, “Small businesses need to be sure that they are fulfilling their role as a proper employer. Quite frankly, UK managers are concerned that they could be taken to an employment tribunal. It’s important they show they’ve taken proper steps to mitigate stress, which is why we’ve bought Validum’s emotional counselling, legal and financial helpline services for all of our small corporate customers and WPA itself. WPA’s insured employees now have automatic access to independent and professional support on any issue affecting their wellbeing.”

He continues, “At the same time, our larger customers are becoming much more focused on employee welfare, taking real steps and strides to ensure they have a well workforce. Having conducted a very thorough review of the wellbeing market, we can now say to all our customers with confidence that Validium is the best EAP provider out there and our provider of choice.”

"Having conducted a thorough review of the market, we can now say with confidence that Validium is the best EAP provider…”

Asked why The Validium Group stood out from all the other EAP providers, Humphreys says, “Validium did a good job of proving the impact of an EAP on the bottom line and we felt that they would treat their customers, our employees and policyholders, as they would like to be treated themselves. As a genuine not for profit association, that has no shareholders and exists only for our customers, the need to treat customers as we would like to be treated is absolutely fundamental to our business. We couldn’t consider working with a supplier that didn’t share that value.”

Another synergy between WPA and The Validium Group is the commitment of both companies to keeping customer data secure.

“WPA deals with highly sensitive customer information. We know things that employers don’t know about their own employees. When you’re dealing with such sensitive data it’s essential that you keep it secure,” says Humphreys. “As one of the first financial services companies to attain BSI ISO/IEC 27001 – the British and International Standard for protecting sensitive and valuable information – we understand just how challenging and comprehensive a project it is to undertake. The fact that Validium is the only EAP provider to have obtained the standard and can guarantee the same level of commitment as us to keeping our data secure was another key factor behind our decision.”

Speaking about the partnership, Dr Wolfgang Seidl, Executive Director of The Validium Group, says, “That an organisation of WPA’s repute has chosen to offer our employee assistance programmes to its customers based on the synergies between our two businesses is a high compliment indeed. We are very much looking forward to working with WPA and helping the employers it works with optimise the wellbeing and productivity of their workforce.”
